Time to Elect 3 New Board Directors
As a Serenia Life voting member, you are entitled to vote in the confirmation election of the three nominated Board of Director candidates.
Our 2026 candidates have gone through a rigorous selection process to ensure they meet the needs of our organization. In fact, the Board assesses the skills and experience of the Board of Directors on a regular basis. It then endeavours to obtain Directors with the expertise and leadership required to ensure that the Governing Board is well versed in financial services and risk management – and that they are committed to Serenia Life Financial’s mission, vision, and values.
Meet the Candidates
Serenia Life Directors have the skills and competencies to effectively guide our organization. All Board members are Christian and support our shared values. They have no material interest in any contract with Serenia Life, except through their individual insurance and/or annuity contracts (which gives them membership into the organization). With the exception of our President and CEO, none are employees and are therefore not involved in our day-to-day business operations.
Cong-Rong Xie
MASc, PgMP, ICD.D, CISSP
An experienced board director and former senior technology executive, Cong-Rong has more than 25 years of leadership in financial services. As former Vice President, Technology and Division CIO at Canada Life, she led enterprise technology, digital transformation, AI and data initiatives, cybersecurity, and major business modernization programs within a federally regulated insurance environment.
Cong-Rong currently serves as a Director of Trillium Mutual Insurance Company and Enova Energy Corporation and has chaired Governance, Audit & Risk, Finance & Investment, and People & Culture committees. She brings deep expertise to enterprise risk management, technology and cyber oversight, strategic transformation, investment governance, executive compensation, and board effectiveness.
Board Value: Cong-Rong brings a rare combination of insurance industry knowledge, board governance experience, technology leadership, cybersecurity expertise, and transformation oversight. Her strengths position her well to contribute to strategic discussions involving digital innovation, enterprise risk, regulatory compliance, operational resilience, and long-term organizational growth.
Leslie Fleming
MBA, FALU, FLMI, ACS
An experienced insurance executive, board director, and risk management advisor, Leslie has more than 30 years of leadership experience in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. She has held senior executive roles with Equitable Life, Manulife Financial, and Foresters Financial, leading underwriting, operations, sales, governance, and enterprise risk initiatives in highly regulated environments.
Leslie brings deep expertise to enterprise risk management, strategic planning, operational transformation, regulatory oversight, and governance. She currently serves on the boards of Ayr Farmers Mutual and Guelph General Hospital, and is an Advisory Board Member with VersaFile Inc. She is also co-author of Essentials of Enterprise Risk Management and is recognized for her ability to balance growth, innovation, and risk oversight to support long-term organizational sustainability.
Board Value: Leslie brings a strong combination of governance experience, risk oversight expertise, and executive leadership in regulated industries, making her particularly well positioned to contribute to strategic discussions involving growth, risk appetite, operational resilience, compliance, and long-term organizational sustainability.
Rino Rondinone
MBA
A seasoned business executive and Insurance Partner at IBM, Rino has more than 25 years of leadership experience across the insurance, health benefits, technology, and consulting sectors. He has held senior executive roles with IBM Canada Consulting, Green Shield Canada, Foresters Financial, and CGI, where he led growth strategies, digital transformation initiatives, cybersecurity programs, and large-scale operational change.
Rino has a strong track record of driving business growth, leading mergers and acquisitions, building high-performing teams, and leveraging technology to create competitive advantage. As a former Executive Vice President, Chief Information Officer, and Chief Security Officer, he brings deep expertise to strategic planning, enterprise transformation, risk management, and innovation within highly regulated environments.
Board Value: Rino brings a powerful combination of insurance industry knowledge, growth leadership, M&A experience, digital transformation expertise, and cybersecurity oversight, making him well-positioned to contribute to strategic, governance, and innovation-focused board discussions.
How to Vote
Voting is now open. Remember that this is a confirmation election, where voting members simply vote FOR or AGAINST all candidates.
Once voting has closed, votes will be verified and counted. If the candidates receive a majority of FOR votes, they will serve their term commencing February 2027.
Here’s how to vote:
- Review our voting member criteria to ensure you are eligible to vote. (NOTE: If you currently have a life insurance policy or annuity with Serenia Life Financial, and you are a member that had voting rights prior to February 23, 2021, you are now considered a “legacy member.” All legacy members have voting rights.)
- Gather your Serenia Life Financial member information, including your POLICY NUMBER (located on your Serenia Life Financial Policy/Statement), before beginning the voting process. If you are unable to locate your policy number, please contact Member Services at 1.800.563.6237.
- Get to know all three candidates by carefully reviewing their information.
- Click the Vote Now! button on this page to begin the online voting process. (Want to vote via mail-in ballot? See below*.)
- Fill in the required information, then vote** FOR or AGAINST all three nominated candidates before voting closes on October 30, 2026.
